Whitegrove Primary School

Whitegrove Primary School Animation Project

During March and April 2005, 12 children from Whitegrove Primary School attended an after-school digital animation project in the DMC.

The pupils worked with artist, Janet Cannon to create a series of animated graphic images, suitable for displaying on a web page.

"I enjoyed the progression from lines to pictures and from black and white to colour. We had more time to explore our ideas than at school." Anna.

The students used graphics tablets to draw their images directly into the graphics application, Adobe Image Ready.

Brakenhale School Project

During March and April 2004, we hosted a multi-media project with 10 pupils from Brakenhale School. The students worked with Martin Franklin for 5 sessions, to create a set of interactive sound and animation pieces controlled by the computer mouse. The results ranged from sci-fi spacescapes to words that play echoing vocals.

As part of the Music curriculum for the student group, they have attained a familiarity with various aspects of Digital Audio, editing and composing sets of sound for interactive animation.

They also developed their ability to visualise and plan their projects through to completion. At the end of the project they presented their work to an audience of parents and teachers, playing together in two improvised pieces, combining the sounds of all of the pieces.

You can download the final project with all the pieces to play on your computer.
PC users will need Winzip to extract the files to your computer.

Wired Words

Our New Media for Writers course with Jane Draycott in November opened up a wealth of possibilites for the course participants, with the introduction of audio and text collaging techniques.

Tonia Maddison was one of the course participants, we are featuring the movie of her piece 'The River' here.

"Much of my work is based on the combination of image and text.  The 'Wired Words' course provided an opportunity to exploit this interest in a multi-media setting.  The course demonstrated how digital technology can be used as a stimulus to creativity - in this instance allowing me to add sound to my 'palette'"
